Formorly lumped with Veitchia joannis, the Montgomery Palm is similar in appearance but does not get as tall nor drop its leaves below a horizontal position. The scales on the leaf stem bases are considerably darker than in that species. Montgomery Palm has become increasingly popular for landscaping, despite its slight susceptibility to lethal yellowing. Collection for palm heart is threatening its existence in the wild. |
